SUMMARY:2026 Science and Engineering Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Science and Engineering Challenge aims to inspire students to consider a future career in STEM. By participating in the challenge\, students see that science and engineering involves creativity\, innovation\, problem solving and teamwork. \nHow it works\nParticipating schools select their representative teams of between 16 and 32 students from Years 9 and 10. A total of 8 different activities are set for each day\, and each school allocates 2-4 students to each activity. Teams are divided into 8 groups that compete in 1 full day or 2 half-day activities. The students are encouraged to explore scientific principles for themselves.\n\nPoints are scored and tallied\, and the winning school on that day qualifies for the State Finals. That winning team may also have the opportunity to compete at the 2026 National Finals in Canberra. A competitive environment is created as representative school teams are pitted against each other and against the clock in a range of science and engineering tasks.\nPlaces are limited to 8 schools per day and will be allocated on a first-in basis.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: for smaller schools that are unable to meet the 16-student minimum\, you are encouraged to combine teams with other small schools so as not to miss out! \nIf you have made arrangements to combine with another school\, please include this information on the registration form. \nKey Dates\n\nHobart (City Hall\, 57 Macquarie St) – Wednesday 20/05/2026 to Friday 22/05/2026\nBurnie (Marist Regional College\, Paraka St) – Tuesday 26/05/2026 (Event Full)\nLaunceston (Launceston Conference Centre\, 50 Glen Dhu St) – Thursday 28/05/2026 – Friday 29/05/2026\nState Finals (Launceston Conference Centre\, 50 Glen Dhu St) – Tuesday 02/06/2026\n\nEntry fee\nThe entry fee is $550 per team (including GST). \nSchool Registrations\n2026 Science and Engineering Challenge – School Registration \nEvent Website\nScience and Engineering Challenge | University of Tasmania \nPlease email schools.engagement@utas.edu.au if you have any further queries.
