New Automotive Training Centre to open in Cambridge

Large building used for automotive training

TasTAFE will be launching a state-of-the-art automotive training centre in Cambridge, giving students access to modern facilities and industry-aligned learning. The $2.35 million centre is set to open in early 2026 and will play a key role in preparing the next generation of skilled technicians just like you.

The centre will feature a fully equipped automotive workshop, flexible classrooms, and spaces designed for practical, hands-on training. The goal is to create a learning environment that mirrors real-world workplaces, so students graduate ready for the job market.

The first course offered will be Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, starting in Semester 1, 2026. This qualification is the standard pathway for becoming a qualified mechanic. More courses will follow later in the year, including training in motorcycle mechanics, heavy vehicles, mobile plant machinery, automotive electrical systems, and even electric and hybrid vehicle technology – skills that are increasingly in demand.

For students thinking about their future, this centre represents a big opportunity. Automotive apprenticeships allow you to earn while you learn, and the skills you gain can lead to owning your own workshop one day. With Tasmania’s growing need for technicians, now is the perfect time to start planning a career in the automotive industry.
