Like peanut butter and jam. Like Lennon and McCartney. Some things are just better when they’re put together. Careerify is here to help build that next iconic duo – your business and one of Tasmania’s motivated, ambitious students.

Your next great hire could be in a classroom nearby.
In your community, government schools across Tasmania have students ready to learn in real workplaces. They’re hardworking, they’re driven, and they’re keen to get started on their careers.
By opening your door to a work placement or an apprenticeship/traineeship, you can shape a young person into a skilled star employee.
Take Kiely Plumbing for example. Kiely’s first school-based apprentice, Isabella, is a glowing success story. Joining the team while still in school, Isabella brought initiative, curiosity, and a calm confidence that made her an immediate fit.
Kiely’s CEO, Sam, knows that taking on an apprentice is an investment in the future. “The apprenticeship program gives us the chance to nurture talent early and build real confidence in young people.”
Work placement or school-based apprenticeship?
Start as small as you’d like.
You could host a student one day a week on a work placement to see if they’re a good fit with your team.
Building on this is a school-based apprenticeship/traineeship (also known as an ASbA). This is where a student is employed as a part-time apprentice in your workplace while also doing classes at school. This may be a bigger commitment for you, but the reward is also greater with the chance to shape a skilled and committed young employee.
Whether a work placement or an apprenticeship/traineeship (or both!) is a better fit for your workplace, we handle the admin. We handle the school coordination, the training paperwork, and the compliance. You just show your new employee the ropes and focus on building your workforce.
Sam at Kiely Plumbing encourages you to “just start. The rewards far outweigh the admin. You’re shaping a future team member and contributing to the future of your industry.”
How is this going to help me?
- Early access to talent: you can identify and train potential employees before committing to hiring
- Skill development: shape a young worker’s skills to match your processes and culture
- Fresh perspectives: young workers can bring in new ideas, skills, and ways of thinking
- Community ties: build a relationship with your local schools, training providers, and families
- Positive impact: help a young person grow with your business
- Encourage growth: mentoring can help existing employees grow their leadership skills and boost morale.
