Introduction to Navy: HMAS Cerberus

HMAS Cerberus is the Navy’s premier training establishment in Australia with approximately 6000 personnel trained annually. The base is located 70km from Melbourne on Western Port Bay.

This work experience placement is open to Tasmanian students and will run over over 3 days. Various units including the Boatswain Faculty, School of Survivability and Ship Safety (SSSS), and School of Signals will be conducting the work experience program.

Participants may experience some of the following activities:

  • Navy swimming test and pool activities
  • Sea survival drills in the pool
  • Visit to the countersink facility and use of other navy training simulators
  • Lessons in knots and navigation using RHIB and helm simulators
  • Physical training and team building exercises
  • Tour and briefing of Maritime logistic facilities and meet Instructors
  • Presentation form Defence Force Recruiting, opportunity to ask questions

Students will arrive at the base on the afternoon of Monday, May 27th, and depart on the morning of Friday, May 31st. Accommodation will be provided at HMAS Cerberus Navy, along with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the duration of their placement. Students will be supervised at all times.
